Dr. Ana María Orduz-Espinal


Colombian pianist Ana Marìa Orduz-Espinal has performed in festivals such as ¨Piano Extravaganza¨, ¨Liszt Festival¨, International Clarinet Fest (USA), ClarinFest y ClarinSax Eafit, Festival Internacional de Clarinete de Bogotá, Festival Internacional de La Cultura de Tunja, Festival Internacional de Piano de Bucaramanga, Festival Internacional de Piano de Barrancabermeja, Festival Nacional de Piano UNAC (Colombia), Kota Kunabalú Music Festival, Malaysian Youth Music Festival (Malaysia), and the Zamorellis Concert Series in Chile. She has performed as a soloist with the Medellín Philharmonic, Eafit Symphony, University of Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Amadeus Foundation Orchestra, Camerata UdeA, UDEA Symphonic Band and the IMDE Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Orduz had her Carnegie Hall Debut in 2016 in the Amazonas Concert Series; she has performed in Colombia, Italy, USA, Chile, Malaysia and Singapore.

Dr. Orduz has been the recipient of many awards and scholarships, including first place in the Città di Padova international competition (Italia) with the Betancur-Orduz piano duo and also in the concerto competition at the University of Memphis (USA). She was awarded several scholarships such as the Berl Olswanger, the Herbert Herman Memorial, the Carolina Oramas from Icetex, the Beethoven´s Club, the Cartagenas International Music Festival, grants from the Colombian government and the University of Iowa Research Fellowship among others. She was also awarded full scholarships to obtain her undergraduate degree at the University of Memphis where she graduated Suma Cum Laude and studied with Joan Gilbert, to obtain her Masters and Doctorate degrees at the University of Iowa where she studied with Dr. Réne Lecuona and Dr. Alan Huckleberry, to attend the piano summer program at Chautauqua Institution four times and the Mammoth Lakes summer music program two times where she studied with Rebecca Penneys, Joel Shoenhals, Paulina Zamora and John Milbauer. Her interest in piano pedagogy has allowed her to present workshops at national and state conferences in the USA, Malaysia and Colombia. She is the founder and director of the Pianissimo Foundation that organizes four concert series, pedagogy workshops and the largest piano Festival-Competition in Colombia (www.pianissimo.com.co).

Her discography includes ¨Día de diciembre¨ released in 2012 with Colombian Tenor Diver Higuita and ¨Portraits of Colombia¨ recorded in 2015 with the duo Orduz-Garcia founded in 2012 with clarinetist Jose Garcia-Taborda (orduz-garcia.com and Facebook: ORDUZGARCIA).

Ana Maria Orduz-Espinal is an associate professor and the head of the Piano Department at the University of Antioquia as well as a piano professor at EAFIT University in Medellin, Colombia. She taught at the University of Iowa and the Nancy Cree Keyboard Center. She is the co-founder and co-director, along with Dr. Rene Lecuona, of the Piano Festival of the Americas.
